8 Ways to Become the Most Proactive Person You Know

One of the things I often tell my team is, “Be proactive in your own becoming.” This sounds like a weird phrase at first, but when you break it down, it makes sense — and it will put you on the path of achievement.
In short, being proactive in your own becoming is a mix of hustle and problem-solving. I have broken it down into eight key points. Some of them are based on words of wisdom from mentors, and some of them are based on my own experiences. All together, they create a clear path to success.

It’s All About You

No one else is going to get you where you want to go – it’s up to you. Your family and friends are a support system, but that is all they are supposed to be for you. They cannot succeed for you. Only you can do that. Take ownership of your problems, and realize that nobody else is going to solve them for you.

Be Solution-Focused

One of the greatest traits of effective people is good problem-solving skills. We are all going to run into problems. It’s how you handle them that makes you effective. The most effective way to handle a problem is to focus on finding a solution. Focusing on things that are out of your control is a waste of time, so focus on what you can control with the final outcome. Your team will learn to approach problems and solutions effectively if you lead by example.

Be Accountable

Your level of accountability for completing tasks is really important. One of my favorite books is “Predictable Revenue” by Aaron Ross and Marylou Tyler. Their approach to achieving goals is both simple and effective: set your goal and then work backwards from that goal to establish metrics to track and evaluate it.
It’s important to have a clearly defined goal that is quantifiable so you can determine if you actually reached it or not. For example, a goal to “get in shape” does not make sense. What does that mean? When are you “in shape?” A goal to “run a mile in under 10 minutes” is something you can physically measure and attain.

Use “SMART” Goals

This acronym has been around for a long time and its meaning varies, but the basic concept works across all areas of life. This is the version I use to set goals:
S: Specific (Pick something particular instead of using a broad category.)
M: Measurable (Choose something you can quantify.)
A: Attainable (You should actually be able to reach this, and it may just require the right steps.)
R: Realistic (Be honest – it’s probably unrealistic to say you will go from making $10,000 to being a billionaire in one year.)
T: Timely (Give each goal a time frame to create a sense of urgency.)

Make Your Own Luck

Being successful is not about having the right kind of luck or expecting the right break to come your way. It is not about the mere expectation that you will succeed. It is about taking steps every day to be better than you were the day before by moving in a positive, forward trajectory. Make a blueprint and set out milestones for yourself in specific time frames, or you are not going to hit your goal. Things do not come to fruition just because you really, really want them to happen. You have to make them happen.

Be Consistent

Ultimately, success is not about getting everything right. It is about being consistent. Are you consistently and persistently taking steps every day to steadily move toward your goal? Do you stop making progress or do you continue on when you encounter a seemingly insurmountable problem? Be consistent in what you do. And even though the steps may seem small at the time, doing the right things day in and day out will move you further down the path to success.

Find the Right People

Surrounding yourself with driven, effective people is a proven way to help you succeed. Proximity can be an excellent motivator. You get to choose between driven people and people who will drag you down. You cannot have both and expect to succeed. You cannot spend time with lazy people all day and also achieve your daily goals. Lazy people are like quicksand. They bog you down slowly without you knowing it, until you wake up one day and realize you are consumed by laziness.

Honesty Is the Best Policy

Be humble and take a hard look at what you are doing and how you are doing it. Be completely honest with yourself about what is not working instead of making excuses. It is easy to stay busy and tell yourself you are taking the right steps, but it is harder to be honest if you are not actually making progress. At the end of the day, if you don’t hit your goals, you are only doing a disservice to yourself. You cannot get better if you tell yourself, “Oh, it’s okay, I’m fine where I am.”Living by this approach has made all the difference in my success. Did I miss something you think is important? Please comment on what has worked for you.

XAGEE KU DANBEEYSAY SHARAFTII SOOMAALIYA..?

Runtii waxa igu qasbay inaan su’ashaan idin weydiiyo ayaa waxay tahay, Markaan arkey dhacdooyin badan, sidoo kalane aan u soo joogay waqti igu filan oo aan ku fahmi karo dhibaatada dadka soomaaliyeed heysata.

Waxaan had iyo jeer maqalnaa in dadka soomaaliyeed ku dhibanyihiin qurbaha, dhibaato badane loogu geeysto waddama ku noolyihiin iyo sidoo kale meelaha aduunka ugu kala safraan.
Dhacdadii ugu danbeeysay ee shacab soomaaliyeed lagu bahdilo waxaay ka dhacday dalka Kenya, Dad aan waxbo galabsan oo sharciigii dalka heysta maalin cad loo sheegay in dalka iskaga baxaan.

Hadaba, Aniga shaqsi ahaan dhibaatadas bahdilaada ah ee lagu beegsado. waxay igu qabsatay waddan ka mid ah dalal aan ku sheegno inaan saxiibo nahay..!, waa dalka Uganda, dhacdadaan waxaay ugu dhacday sanadkii hore 2013.
Markii diyaaradii aan saarnaa soo caga dhigatay garoonka Entebbe ee magaalada Kampala u jira qiyaas ahaan 30KM, ayaa sida caadiga ah waxay dadka waxay u kala  baxeeyn qeybo kala duwan, Sida dadka dalka u dhashay oo saf wada gala, Dadka ka sooo jeeda wadamada la isku dhaho East African Community oo saf noqda iyo dadka u dhashay dalalka ee caalamka oo Soomaaliya ka mid tahay meel qura saf ka gala.

Qof waliba marka laga reebo dadka dalka u dhashay waxuu horay kasoo qaatay warqada VISA-ha lagu dalbado, Isla markaane kusoo qoray dhamaan waxii macluumad ah ee laga doonayey, waxaa loo soo dhaqaaqay dhakaas iyo sargaalka qaabilsan socdaalka iyadoo saf dheer lagu jiro, qof walibane markiisa sugaya inuu dhiibto Passport-kiisa iyo warqada VISA-ha oo isla socda.

Hadaba waxa la soo garaay xiligi aan dhibaan lahaa Passport-keyga iyo warqada Visa-ha, Markii aan is dultaagay Sargaalkii qeyba socdaalka qaabilsanaa oo aan u dhiibay intaan kor kusoo sheegay ayaan waxaan kala kulmay runtii soo dhaweeyn ka duwan qaabkii dadkii iga horeey ee cadaanka iyo madoowga lahaa loo soo dhaweeyey, waxaan halkaas ka dareemay in dhamaan dadka kale ee aan safka ku wada jirnay dhamaan si wanaagsan loo soo dhaweeyey. isla markaane howshodii loo fududeeyey, sababtoo ayadoo lagu ixtiraamayo dowladaha dalkooda oo heerkaas gaarsiiyey in dadkooda sidaas loola dhaqmo.

Sargaalkii waxuu si xanaaq ku dheehantahay u fiirshay Passporkeygii iyo meshaan ka imaaday, waxuu igu dhahay maxaad ka qabaneeysay Pakistaan oo ah meshaan ka imaaday? waxaan u sheegay inaan arday ahay, waxyar ka dib sargaalkii waxuu iisheegay in dadka soomaalida ah qol yar oo meel udhaw ku yaalay soo maraan marka hore, anigane halkaas aan iska xaadiriyo.

Markii aan isku dayey inaad weeydiyo sababta aan aniga halkaas u tagayo, isla markaana dadka kale meshaan oo kaliya usoo marayaan, waxuu igu dhahay hadii aadan meshaas tagi waxaad weeyni doontaa inaad hesho visa-ha dalka aad ku gali laheyd.

10 things I hate about being a foreigner in Karachi

Magaalada Karachi ee Pakistaan

1. The staring. From the moment you get out of the airport, wherever you are, whether it is a McDonald’s restroom or browsing in the bazaars, the constant staring makes you feel as if there is some deformity on your body or a target  on your face. Have you suddenly turned into the Bride of Wildenstein?
2. Loadshedding. The novelty of using the lavatory in the dark whilst the guard feebly attempts to get the generator working quickly wears off. And the sudden beaming of mobile phone lights at an aunty’s dinner party is not because you were about to rock out.
3. The language barrier. The blank faces as you mime and act your way through the day makes one realise why drama school didn’t work out. It can be infuriating to get responses like, “Aap apna mun dhona chahein gi?” after trying to mime that you wanted a drink.
4. The humidity. No, I don’t want to get my hair blow dried. Trust me, as soon as I go outside you’ll wonder whether I have even heard of a hair salon.
5. “Buzzzzz….buzzzzzzz”. The non-stop swatting away of the aggravating creatures that are mosquitoes. New research suggests extinction of mosquitoes would not have major detrimental effects to any ecosystem so do away with them already. Forget malaria, I just don’t like the whole “Hey, I’m rocking the bubonic plague” look.
6. Time management. The laid back attitude of Karachiites in making a plan. And if you dare to make plans the incredibly ridiculous need to be available at the drop of a hat, since 2 pm could mean 3, 4, 5 or 6 pm.
7. Traffic. Only in Karachi could driving over pavements to get from point A to B in a non-emergency be par for the course. And the resulting barrage of profanity directed at pedestrians is, of course, considered reasonable.
8. The belief that because you were born in a Western country you are a complete coconut (brown on the outside but white on the inside). Yes, I know what a “s-h-a-l-w-a-r k-a-m-e-e-z” is thank you very much and I do not require cutlery to eat a roti.
9. Special prices. “Baji, for you I do discount…urrrmm 750.” The ridiculous attempts to rip you off as a foreigner. I’ll take a rain check on that ‘special treatment’. The cheesy smiles and broken English won’t get you anywhere!
10. Not good for the waistline. Life in Karachi revolves around food. Aunty jees forcing you to try anything and everything even when you’ve said “no, thank you” ever so sweetly. But after forcing everything edible down your throat, they are also the first to comment on your bulging hips: “Hai, tum aaj kal kaafi healthy lag rahi ho!”

Mogadishu, 13 August 2014 – Members of the United Nations Security Council arrived in Mogadishu this morning on a landmark visit to Somalia to review progress made by the Federal Government with assistance from the international community, and to demonstrate their continued support for the country’s efforts to ensure a sustainable peace. The visit by the fifteen-member body is led by the UK Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Mark Lyall-Grant, and Ambassador Usman Sarki of Nigeria. During the visit the Council members met with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed, senior members of the Government and the Federal Parliament, and the leaders of the Interim Jubba Administration and Galmudug, Ahmed Islaan Madobe and Abdi Hassan Awale Qeybdid. They also held discussions with the senior leadership of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and members of Somalia’s civil society. But after forcing everything edible down your throat, they are also the first to comment on your bulging hips: “Hai, tum aaj kal kaafi healthy lag rahi ho!”
